GARRETT DETRIXHE

Bio
Garrett Detrixhe is a writer and director based between Los Angeles and Oklahoma. He creates genre-blending narratives, using rural America as a backdrop for simple stories about complex characters. His storytelling is influenced by his upbringing in northwest Oklahoma, where he grew up as an athletic church kid in a conservative, farming town. Garrett’s work often explores themes of masculine vulnerability, blue-collar life, and the push-and-pull between community and individuality.

Garrett’s love for cinema began by reading Roger Ebert's reviews of films he had never heard of. Ebert’s famous idea that films are “machines that generate empathy” has been a guiding principle for him throughout his work. Garrett is passionate about finding stories that deepen his understanding of himself, others, and the world around him.

Garrett began his career in Atlanta, working as a producer and production manager on film, TV, and documentary projects for companies like HBO, CNN, and Adult Swim. He co-founded The Thursday Club, a filmmaking collective that has produced several award-winning shorts, including The Girl at the Motor Hotel, which won Best Narrative Short at the Eastern Oregon Film Festival and Best Performance at the Tallgrass Film Festival. Garrett is also a WeScreenplay fellow and participated in the 2023 Eastern Oregon Filmmaker Residency program.

In his free time, Garrett enjoys picking up hobbies that he struggles to fully commit to, spending time with friends and family, reading, cooking, and escaping the city whenever possible. He loves camping and hiking with his two dogs, Jack and Lily.
